Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy
TOTAL RATING: 4.4 STARS
Ready for an adventure?
Arthur and Maudie Brightstorm are devastated by the news that their father, a daring explorer, has died in a failed attempt to reach South Polaris. But a mysterious clue leads the twins to question the story they’ve been told. To find the truth, they must undertake the journey of a lifetime.
This is a charming action adventure Middle Grade story, full of daring that reminded me loads of stuff like Tintin when I was reading it but with a fun, unique spin.
The twins each have their own talent and they gel really well with the rest of the cast. While much of the world is seen in a dash because of the race within the main hook of the novel, it’s built ready for further novels so sweetly, but while brief definitely feels lived in, especially Lontown.
At it’s heart, a beautiful story dealing with loss and grief, but finding hope in the kindness of others, Brightstorm hits you right in the feels but with enough action to keep you turning pages with excitable expectations.
I can’t rave about this book enough. Sure to be a Middle Grade classic one day!
Final Thoughts – The future is very Bright, for the Brightstorm series.
